Clarification from HETAS regarding the 2023 Environmental Improvement Plan:
The Environment Improvement Plan clearly states that the government is not considering a ban on domestic burning in England and it recognises that some households are reliant on solid fuel burning for heating, hot water and cooking.

We are a family business. We have been established for over 60 years. Tom White (pictured) established our business when he began sweeping in 1953, and his son David took over in 1970. But our family chimney sweeping history goes right back to Victorian times.

The White family comes from the East End of London – around the Shoreditch, Hoxton and the Bethnal Green area. It was David’s grandmother’s side of the family, the Brooks, who were originally chimney sweeps. For many generations, they owned a large business in and around London up until the second Word War.
When David’s grandfather met with our Brooks relatives, who were no longer in business, he took their chimney sweeping equipment home with him for his son Tom White, with their blessing and best wishes. This is how Tom started his own chimney sweeping business. His business flourished, spreading out from Swanley into North Kent and South London.
Tom’s son David took up the reins in 1970. And from the 90s David’s sons Tony and Ricky joined him in running the business making them 3rd generation sweeps!
The profession is no longer just about cleaning chimneys. So we now use the term ‘chimney specialists’. Our customers’ needs are many and varied. For example, we repair, repoint, remove and even rebuild chimney stacks and there is a constant need to fit new chimney pots and cowls. Also, as people become more aware of the benefits of using solid fuel and wood burning stoves, new flue systems have become very popular.
